Honoring a family business that hires employees from
diverse and challenging backgrounds, Senator Scott Wilk
awarded Pacific Lock as his Small Business of the Month
this week.
The Pacific Lock Company, owned by President Greg Waugh, opened in 1997,
and manufactures padlocks with the help of workers from Pleasantview Industries.
Pleasantview has been serving adults with disabilities in the Santa Clarita Valley for over 45 years through its programs providing community job placement, a work-activity program and support services, according to the company’s website.

Waugh has worked to create a company that sells quality items, while also providing jobs and work experience for those who stem from unique environments and developmental disabilities.“It is an honor to receive any award,” said Waugh, “but to receive recognition from a state leader is extremely special.”Though it is tough competing against big businesses, Waugh said being a part of a small business allows him and his company to do more good for employees.

The Pacific Lock Company hires workers with various disabilities and supports people who need jobs. “There is something truly special about being able to hire individuals who come from rough backgrounds,” said Waugh. “These people are then able to make money, grow with the company, and become successful. There is nothing more exciting than watching your employee buy their own house or car.”

Waugh also notes that being a small business owner is a constant challenge, but that his company’s internal and external work surpasses the struggle of the economy.

Pleasantview Industries relies on the support of individuals, businesses, foundations and community organizations each year. Every gift, no matter what the size, helps people with developmental disabilities to live better lives.
